Smoothie Source

I think I could count the number of mornings I have risen and not made my beloved green smoothies. Some days I even have two green smoothies, although the heaviness of my blender does make it a bit difficult for me to haul it around with me to work and such. Anyway…

I love green smoothies. And oddly enough, I completely detested them until about 3 years ago. I disliked how they were usually loaded with sugar, even if just from the load a fruits that they were made from, and the lack of filling capabilities they brought to my stomach. I would drink one and be hungry again an hour later. Oh, and then I found the green smoothie. A love I will never part with. I love the leaves of nutrition (literally) it holds. The endless variety of “superfoods” and supplements they are a vehicle for- not to mention the variations of fruits. Yes, after my first green smoothie, it was love at first sip.

Lately, I’ve been stuck in a bit of a smoothie rut though. I make the same smoothie almost every morning due to lack of creativity. But now that spring has finally bless us with her presence, that shall be ‘a changin’.

Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more smoothie posts in the Blog World. And why not? Smoothies are awesome. One Frugal Foodie likes simple smoothies. Kristen’s Raw likes green smoothies and even provides tons of recipes. And Katie, with all of her Making Food and Other Stuff, sent me a green smoothie recipe she’s been sippin’, and oh did it sounds great! I’ll be trying it out this weekend and posting her creation. But, since I haven’t made it yet, you can just drool over ones I’ve made in the past year.

I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time creating just a plain, simple smoothie- without the 45,000 different add ins. 😉 Anyone have a suggestion for a simple smoothie?? Or even a suggestion on how to keep your green smoothie simple?

But for now… check out my creation…

Hazelnut Raspberry Bliss Shake

  • Frozen banana
  • Chard leaves
  • Raspberries
  • Coconut oil
  • Hazelnut flavored Stevia
  • Blend all and drink up!

What crazy concoction(s) are you blending up this week? Maybe something with kiwis? Mangoes perhaps? What about chili peppers??? <—those are fantastic in smoothies, btw!

  2. I LOVE green smoothies 🙂 And, I love Navitas mulberries. Yum! I’m making a green smoothie today with banana, pineapple, romaine, coconut water and other goodies. I can’t wait!

    Cheers,
    Kristen

  3. I’m so into smoothies lately. I’m not exactly following any protein diet or anything, I just discovered that it actually taste good, lol! So, I’m eating something that is not just delicious but healthy as well. What could get better than that! I started with fruit smoothies, but lately I’m starting to like veggie smoothies, too! Carrots and pumpkins smoothie are actually great. I would like to try your recipe as well, I like the mixture of fruits and chard there, I’m just not so sure about the coconut oil though. Maybe coconut juice will be better, lol!

  4. You saw my smoothies…mine are pretty redundant because I like it that way. Depending on what berries or fruits are on sale, I switch it up but sadly Trader Joe’s does not have many options in the frozen fruit section. I just put kale and banana and other fruits as I want. Boring but it works!

  5. Yay, a smoothie post! I love smoothie posts 😀 I think the reason smoothies are so appealing (atleast to me) is that they almost feel like your drinking a dessert! And who doesn’t love a dessert..lol 🙂

When I want to keep my green smoothies simple I do a couple different greens, fruit, and water. I also try to rotate the different greens and fruits day to day. A few interesting greens I’ve tried so far this spring are collards, dandelions, and rapini.

    Loved your post! 🙂

  6. These look great! Especially the last one.

Mine this morning was more complex – apricots, banana, spices, spinach, almond milk, honey, nuts, and seeds – usually I keep it simple but sometimes I spiral out of control 🙂

  7. These smoothies look great. Lori and I go through periods were we will have the same smoothies over and over, we just love them. Today we had a peach colllard smoothie and I loved it!

When I was at 105 they had a smoothie with peppers, which I am usually not a fan, but I liked it!

Smoothie making can be hard, but also fun ; )

  8. Mmm..I love smoothies for breakfast or after a sweaty workout! I think I’ve pretty much been sticking to the same old green monster smoothie (spinach, bananas, milk). I add Amazing Grass Chocolate Infusion into mine all the time, and sometimes throw in some blueberries or strawberries.

Btw, your blog is sooo cute! Love your header picture 🙂

  9. Smoothies…..you are the smoothie queen! Look at those beauties! Broccoli first, now chilies….I don’t know about that. I just got a book of smoothie “recipes” for my friend for her birthday, and of course looked through it.

There’s one with zucchini and sprouts. Sounds more like soup, but I may try it!
