Successful Failures

Posted byLori Posted onApril 12, 2011 Comments19

There are so many food pictures I have tucked away in my arsenal of photos. Most are blogged, some are not. Some are successful recipes, some are not.

I’d like to take you on a journey of some of the dishes, recipes, and ugly foods that did not previously make my blog. I warn you in advance, they are my food failures. Successfully, most of them still tasted pretty darn good.

SUCCESSFUL FAILURES

Failure #1

What is this? The newest tie-dye fashion? A kaleidoscope of colors? Chunky throw up?

Nope!

It’s Cornbread!

Yeah… this delicious-lookin-on-the-outside, almost moldy-blue-on-the-inside actually tasted great. Photographically charming, no.

My Blueberry Goat Cheese Cornbread (with blue food coloring- kids, don’t try that at home) was a kicked-up-a-notch rendition of my favorite Purple Bird Blog‘s recipe for Gluten Free Cornbread.

Fail.

Failure #2

I’ve had this picture laying around for a while. And to be completely honest, I am not quite sure what it is anymore. A squash protein brownie?

I do believe that is Vodka Infused Fudge on the top, though.

Fail.

Failure #3

Not even sure how to caption this.

I was going for a almond butter and jelly filled muffin. Not so tasty. Good idea? Definitely bad lighting.

Fail.

Failure #4

Raw Marizpan trial gone terribly wrong. And ugly. I’ll stick to letting Ela make the marizpan from now on.

Fail.

Failure #5

Ugly and not such good eats for a Chocolate Zucchini Socca. Frozen berries, protein powder, and some other stuff. Blah.

Fail.

Failure #6

This one was actually really good… fresh out of the oven. Otherwise it was hard and bland. My version of Oh She Glow’s amazing donuts, not so amazing. And not so donut shaped. 😉

I swear they had potential.

Fail.

Failure #7

These photos crack me up every time I look at them. I just picture a creature sticking it’s tongue out at me. (I’m laughing as I type this)

A little too crispy macaroons with tahini and date syrup filling. It was a valiant try and it was good but just not blog-worthy. Until now.

Fail.

Failure #8

Vegan Gravy attempt. It was really good, just really disgusting looking.

Fail.

As I could literally post ugly pictures all day, I’ll quit at 8. And as you can see, much a meal is made that is not blogged… for good reasons.

I hope you enjoyed this rendition of Successful Failures here on What Runs Lori. I promise some Successful Successes for you as often as I can. 😉

  1. If by failures you mean awesomeness! Doesn’t matter how it looks as long as it tastes awesome right?

  2. okay your failures are like my successes hahaha plus all of them probably make EXCELLENT toppers or just put in a tupperware and grab bites at random times during the day 😉

  3. hahahaa! I actually think the first one is pretty! The last one kind of looks like puke. Sorry. But you already knew that!

Most of my food pictures look like these. lol. This is why I don’t do much recipe posting 😉

  4. the first blueberry goat cheese cornbread sounds really good! i have a thing with eating blue stuff tho. it reminds me of windex 🙂

  5. these don’t look bad to me, especially after reading the description… YUM. and without failure you have no success, right? I cook and create A LOT… and let me tell you, there is A LOT that is not photo worthy, not to mention not that great tasting… 🙂

  6. hahahah.. the precise reason I DON’T include everything I make on my blog. it’s all good. we wouldn’t learn to be great without our failures, right? 🙂

  7. I think those all look pretty good, actually! Love the tongue-sticking-out take on the tahini-date syrup…

Eating mistakes is one of the joys of this–and you definitely make it funny.

  8. heheeh I think alot of it looks good actually! The macroons with a tahini date syrup sound fab-u-lous! Ive had so many fails…lots of them. I made some muffins and forgot baking powder/soda..so they turned to hockey pucks…that was neat…and alot of baked goodies that I couldnt get out of the pan..so they ended up a shredded mess..I tried to heat an egg in the micro a few years ago. Dont ask me why…that doesnt even remotely sound like it would work. Outcome was a total fail and a huge mess. haha! I kinda like the fails..makes for some great stories though. I think the blue swirled through the bread looks so fun! Id definently eat everything in those pics!

  9. I love this post! What a great idea 🙂 If something looks not so hot- but tastes amazing- I still post it ;). We definitely all have our major kitchen fails though. They’re good learning experiences at least?

  10. haha! so good to know that others know ugly food can still be delicious! some of my best tasting meals are the nastiest looking! that’s okay, though, it just means no one asks to share! 🙂

  11. I love gravy!! There is no way to make it look appetizing though. But, really who cares? I’d eat that smoothered over any and every thing all day long.

Tahini and date syrup has me intrigued. And I’ve been thinking about making those donuts, so good to know. I’ll stick with my own recipe. Which reminds me….

  12. hahaha nice to know Im not the only one who messes up in the kitchen every once in a while! (or like once a week, but hey whatever) 😉

  13. hahaha this totally made me laugh 🙂 I tried making homemade tamales once….BIG TIME fail lol

  14. ahhhhhh! i always get so discouraged when my food creations fail…but now, i don’t feel so bad.

thanks for the laughs this morning. totally needed.

    *hugs*
