Eating Well Is A Tough Job, But Somebody’s Gotta Do It. Part 2

Welcome to Eating Well Is A Tough Job, But Somebody’s Gotta Do It. Part 2. Did you read Part 1 yet? Read it here.

Part 2, after the unluck of Friday, includes Saturday and Sunday eating well. Although I’m still not sure anything will ever truly beat Fudenjuce’s Middle Eastern (hummus burrito). SO GOOD. I honestly can’t stop thinking  about how great the food was.

So, maybe it was the short bout of hiking, but I was just hungry all weekend.

Like my hiking pictures? …with my CrossFit shirt and my awesomely comfortable New Balance Minimus shoes.

Saturday I hit up Sacramento in search of a clothes shopping fix, which I found, but that also included some fueling of the stomach.

Have you ever heard of Chicago Fire? It’s a crazy-good pizza restaurant, home of the Chicago-style deep dish pizza. Neither Paleo nor vegan, I was thoroughly impressed and satisfied with my diet deviation.

If I’m going to eat a pizza, it better be a good one. Super deep dish, thick and crispy crust with layers of sauce. I love it for the once in a VERY not-so-often splurge.

Complete with fat, cheese, and meat, this is not a chick-friendly meal. But it was good.

And what fattening meal is complete without dessert?

Not mine.

Vegan cupcakes were next on my foodie stop at Sugar Plum Vegan Bakery and Cafe. Their savory menu looked pretty great, too, but I was after the dessert so cupcakes were chosen.

Above is the Pumpkin Spice Cupcake with a pumpkin “cream cheese” frosting.

The rich pumpkin flavor and slight nutmeg and cinnamon spice was perfect for these cupcakes. Yet a little more dense than I like (I like me a fluffy muffin!) I enjoyed the holiday flavors.

Lemon Lavender Cupcake with a lemon lavender frosting. Cutest as can be with a mini chocolate chip dotted lavender flower on top. This cupcake was good. Again, more dense than I like, but this lemon flavor mixed with a hint of lavender was perfect. Not too sweet, not at all sour from the lemon, but deliciously balanced. That frosting was g o o d.

Absolutely beautiful looking, like all of their cupcakes. As I arrived at the very end of the day, there wasn’t much left in the way of selection, but they did have a few different cupcakes, gluten-free (and of course dairy-free, being that they’re a vegan bakery) cookies, some thick apple pies, and huge coconut MACA-roons.

My master plan is to go back at the start of the day and try out a breakfast dish or two and get my compostable to-go box of their Chocolate Lavender Raw Cashew Cheesecake, gluten-free Zucchini Chai Muffin, a Red Velvet-Cocoa Cupcake with pink buttercream and chocolate drizzle, or the Chocolate Chip-Chocolate dipped with peanut butter buttercream.

Yes, I’m drooling now, too. Don’t worry. I don’t judge.

At this point, I was stuffed. I had a few bites of each cupcake and that was it. Finally, no more food.

Nothing like a Teaser Tuesday to finish off a post. Tomorrow, I promise you an incredible recipe that you cannot miss.

Check back tomorrow for Wednesday’s post: Banana Bread Beer Cupcakes

Like I haven’t had enough cupcakes [or food!].

What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever put in your baked goods?

Any awesome bakeries or places to eat at in your neighborhood? Should I come visit (and blog) them (and you)??
